Dublin City Council in partnership with the Embassy of France in Ireland is delighted to announce the winners of the Dublin City Council Dublin Winter Lights Video Mapping competition for NCAD Moving Image Design students. This year’s winners are Mya Byrne Archbold and Milana Sabanina.

The themes of ‘reimagine and regenerate’ were chosen as Hugh Lane Gallery closes for a three year renovation and the students have created a stunning range of work in response to this brief. With support from the Embassy of France in Ireland, the award is a trip to France to attend the Image Beyond the Screen International Conference (IBSIC) and the associated Lille Video Mapping Festival in 2026.

At the award ceremony, Cllr. Clodagh Ní Mhuirí said, “It is wonderful to see the Hugh Lane Gallery lit up with creative work by emerging artists. Their interpretation of the theme of ‘Reimagine and Regenerate’ is particularly apt and timely as we advance the Parnell Square Cultural Quarter Project. This flagship civic project will serve as a cornerstone for learning, culture, and community engagement for generations to come. Congratulations to the talented winners, Mya Byrne Archbold and Milana Sabanina.”

Steve MacDevitt, Co-Head Moving Image Design, NCAD said “The competition has provided our students with a fantastic opportunity. Working with Dublin City Council, the Embassy of France in Ireland and Hugh Lane Gallery, the competition creates engaging artworks using light in public spaces, giving the students an incredible canvas to work with. There is something truly powerful about seeing your own work projected onto a major building in the heart of the city accessible to all – it fosters pride, connection and inspiration.”

The finalists and winning entries can be viewed on Hugh Lane Gallery, Parnell Square, until the end of December.
